What makes a good construction transport partner?
A good construction transport partner gets the right vehicle to the right place at the right time, with the load secured and within the rules, and keeps you informed. Price matters, but a cheap delivery that arrives late or damaged costs far more than it saves.
The six-point checklist
1. Coverage
Does the company serve every emirate your projects need, including intercity routes? Ask whether they regularly plan the specific routes you use, and how they handle the road rules at each end.
2. Fleet fit
Does the company run the vehicle types your loads need – for example flatbeds for steel, tippers for loose materials and bulk trailers for contained bulk? A provider that only has one vehicle type may suggest it for loads it does not suit. See flatbed vs tipper vs bulk trailer.
3. Load securing
Ask how loads are secured. For steel, you want to hear about dunnage, restraint of every bundle, edge protection and re-checking during the journey. The European Commission's cargo securing guidelines estimate that up to 25% of truck accidents can be attributed to inadequate cargo securing, so this question matters.
4. Road-rule planning
Dubai restricts trucks on named roads and hours from 1 October 2026, according to the RTA and Dubai Police, and Abu Dhabi restricts heavy vehicles at peak hours and on key corridors, according to the ITC. Ask how the company plans dispatch around these rules and how it keeps loads within federal weight limits – see our axle-load guide.
5. Documents
Ask for the documents your organisation requires – typically a valid trade licence and appropriate insurance – and check them before the first job. Your own procurement or HSE team may have a standard list.
6. Communication
How will you know when the truck has left, when it will arrive and whether anything has changed? A clear, single line of communication – often WhatsApp in the UAE – saves your site team time.
Questions to ask before you commit
- Which emirates and routes do you cover?
- Which vehicle would you send for this load, and why?
- How will the load be secured?
- How will you plan around the truck restrictions on this route?
- How do you make sure loads stay within weight limits?
- Can you share your trade licence and insurance details?
- Who is my point of contact, and how will you update me?
- Can you plan a programme of deliveries for this project?
Red flags
- A price given before the company knows the material, quantity or locations.
- Vague answers about load securing or road restrictions.
- Reluctance to share licensing or insurance documents.
- No clear point of contact.
Comparing quotes
Make sure quotes assume the same vehicle, the same number of loads and the same timing. Our guide to what affects transport cost explains why quotes differ, and the quote checklist helps you send the same information to every provider.
How Nafees Transport answers these questions
- Coverage: all seven emirates, from our base in Dubai Silicon Oasis – see areas we serve.
- Fleet: bulk trailers, tippers and flatbed trailers, matched to each load.
- Load securing: steel, rebar and pipes are loaded, strapped and secured before departure.
- Planning: every dispatch is planned around the truck restrictions on its route.
- Communication: one conversation from quote to delivery.
Ask us for the documents your organisation requires as part of your onboarding.
First, define what you need
Before comparing providers, write down what you will be moving, between which locations, how often and with what timing constraints. A clear brief makes it easy to see which companies genuinely fit and gives every provider the same information to quote against.
